Ingrid is in jail, being the main suspect of Jan's murder. Joy and Eric are reinstated at MCW, though none of the others welcome the latter. Astrid and Marielle concern themselves about a young woman from Croatia. Reini welcomes Paul van der Voort into her home when his son Joost is admitted to MCW with an indeterminable illness.

Joost van der Voort is being released, but now his father Paul is in hospital because he's showing signs of senility. During the trial against Ingrid, lawyer Helenberg tries find evidence against Eric Koning. A young Egyptian girl is forced to be circumcised before her marriage by her mother.

Arend-Jan and Marielle are both bidding on his family's former stately home. Astrid discovers who Jan's real killer is and that she was the intended victim. Reini offers a place to stay for the recently divorced Annelies and her daughter Kim.

The rivalry between the sons of Arend-Jan and Marielle gets stronger. Dick asks Annelies out to dinner. Paul van der Voort has to be admitted to a home so he can be properly cared for.

Liza is having an affair with Bert Helenberg. Joy has fallen for Arend-Jan, despite his discriminating remarks. A patient suspected of taking an overdose of sleeping pills refuses to admit he took any.

Annelies is afraid to tell Dick about her illness. Liza doesn't dare tell Victor that she's pregnant by Bert now that his illness is acting up again. Arend-Jan is furious when he hears his son participated in a in a violent riot at the Walgraven estate.

Little Christiaan visits Ingrid at MCW, but still has to go back to his foster parents. John Hoekstra ends up in a coma after a botched drug deal. His father Arend-Jan suspects Sham Abid. Victor is dying, but asks Liza to marry him while they still can.

Ingrid and Arend-Jan suspect Christiaan may be being mistreated by his foster parents. Astrid concerns herself about a homeless woman called Simone. Annelies is given different work at MCW and tells Dick she's not in love with him.

A tumor is found in Reini's breast. Sham tries to commit suicide in a jail cell. Homeless Simone reveals the secret of her years of pain to her former best friends. Jeffrey also has a confession to make to his mother Marielle.

Reini's tumor has already spread into several body parts. John finally awakens from his coma. Victor is ready to die and has peace with Liza being with Bert when he'll be gone.

Reini gave up a daughter for adoption when she herself was just 16. Now that she has breast cancer, she asks Dick to help her find the now 35 year old Froukje. Roos is pregnant with Guus's child, but his gay friend Rob tries to make him doubt his sexual preference. Liza finds it hard to cope with the reactions of her colleague concerning her unfaithfulness to the late Victor Brouwer. Arend-Jan asks Joy to come and live with him and John.

Ingrid and Eric are considering a marriage of convenience. Leo Koning suspects his son of copying experimental information to treat cancer. A vein in Maurice Alberts leg is logged, leading to an operation.

Eric announces his and Ingrid wedding in public, and tells Dick to stop the experiment on Reini privately. However, Dick's gen experiment appears to work for Reini thanks to a hormone shot. The marital troubles of a couple grow worse when she has to have a breast amputated.

Arend-Jan manages to prove that Christiaan's foster parents are inadequate. This causes Ingrid to call of her wedding to Eric at the altar. Leo Koning convinces Eric to steal Dick's gen-experiment. But when he breaks some flasks during the burglary, dangerous chemicals are released and threaten to infect the entire hospital.
