Alexander Trent is a high school senior that utilizes his nearly invisible social status to profit off of and enjoy marijuana. Alex's disconnection seems to be a typical teenage occurrence in his family's eyes, so they remain oblivious to his habit and lucrative business, though both his father and brother are local sheriff deputies. The variety of clients Alex interacts with, ranging from fellow students to housewives, illustrate that he and many of those around him all live double lives due to their habit. Immediately after delivering the eulogy, Alex takes off into the woods and faces his deepest fears. Upon returning home, Alex finds his former life in ruins; his parents have pulled him from school and placed him in drug treatment.

Bill leaves town to search for T in the vast deserts surrounding the forest. Alex settles into a new, lonely routine as he is the only one left in the empty Trent house day to day.
