A world famous writer finds himself waking up at 4:20 every morning when his clock stops ticking. He soon becomes convinced that some day he will die at 4:20 AM.

When a journalist decides to do a story on a criminal named Smith, whose crimes horrified and appalled the England of his time, she discovers that the past is living on in present.

Shortly after a woman moves her family to Sussex so that she and her husband can raise their children away from London, she begins hearing sounds coming from the attic at night which no one else can hear.

Jane is an discontented middle-class wife and mother. One night in her bedroom she hears a woman crying, though her husband hears nothing. Is it a symptom of her depression or is her home haunted? In her attempts to discover the truth she becomes increasingly paranoid
