On March 10, 2022, Smollett was found guilty of five of six counts and sentenced to 120 days in jail, six years of felony probation and ordered to pay restitution of more than $120,000 and a $25,000 fine for making false reports to police that he was the victim of a hate crime. He has not been hired for any film or television project since.
