The German-Polish border region is toured. Stops include Poznan, where the Polish state began; Berlin, where Checkpoint Charlie and Berlin Wall Memorial are visited; Potsdam, which hosted the famous Potsdam Conference of 1945; and Wroclaw, where a boating excursion is enjoyed.

The Swiss village of Zermatt, which sits at the foot of the Matterhorn, is visited. Included: skiing; an annual folk festival, which features a parade and performances by more than 1200 dancers, yodelers and musicians.

A tour of Montreal spotlights the city's markets, cathedrals, cafés and Latin quarter.

A tour of Tokyo contrasts its modern and traditional sides.

A visit to the Bonin Islands, which are about 600 miles south of Tokyo, features kayaking, snorkeling and whale watching.

In the South Asian kingdom of Bhutan features a Buddhist master and a thangka artist. Also: the modern pressures facing the ancient country are examined in Thimphu, its capital.

A tour of the Kingdom of Bhutan stops in Phobjikha Valley, where the rare black-necked crane is observed; and Bumthang in the central part of the country, where the annual Ngang Lhankhang "Swan Monastery" festival is enjoyed.

A Christmastime visit to San Antonio highlights the city's seasonal festivities and spiritual roots. Included: Mission San José's mariachi Mass; and Christmas and Hanukkah events at the historic La Villita in the Arneson River Theatre.

A visit to Taiwan during the Taiwan Lantern Festival, a Chinese holiday that's more than 2000 years old.
