Bob Tate's ex-wife, in charge of a Special Branch operation, persuades him to release a suspect involved in her operation. However, the operation goes wrong leaving Tate in hot water.

Frank McGrath, an armed robber with a grudge against D.I. Scott, is released following the collapse of a case. Scott and his family are on holiday in Cornwall, unaware that McGrath is free and pursuing them, leaving the squad with a race against time to foil McGrath's plans for revenge.
