The Story of Saiunkoku - Season 1 (2006)

Shuurei finds out that Ryuuki had been 'playing dumb' the entire time, at the same time, Ryuuki also finds out that she was a paid temporary consort for him. Ryuuki comes up with a contest to win money and Shuurei's forgiveness.

Things start to go missing of Shuurei's, it turns out that they were poisoned, but she is being kept in the dark. General Ran Shuuei's younger brother, Ryuuren, shows up in the palace and causes a ruckus.

Shuurei realizing that it is time to leave the palace, is suddenly kidnapped. A rescue mission as well as the capture of the culprits behind the poisoning and the abduction causes a disturbance in the palace and truths to be revealed.

After being rescued, Shuurei is still poisoned. The King must make a promise for the future to secure the antidote.

Ryuuki works on a proposal that will make Shuurei's dream come true, and will also affect all women and the country. Now back at home, Shuurei picks up a man who had collapsed outside her house because of the heat.

Back in the palace with a new mission, Shuurei not informed about Ryuuki's proposal, works hard in the Finance Dept. dressed as a male.

Ryuuki plans an evening visiting to Shuurei at her house, however a bandit attack in the day causes him to have to change his plans.

A side story that took place after the aptitude test but before the results were received. Shuurei gets sick; there are flashbacks, visitors and enough trouble keep everyone on their toes.

Shuurei passed the aptitude test and can take the exam. Others who have come to take the exam from other regions are coming into the city, however this draws those who wish to take advantage out of the shadows.

Shuurei along with Ryuuki, Shuuei, Kouyuu, Seien and To Eigetsu are hold up in a Brothel, while the Seikin Gang attacks.

Shuurei and Eigetsu pass the exams, and start their journeys as officials. Though it an easy path for the first woman nor the youngest under the strict Instructor Ro.

Shuurei and Eigetsu continue their hard work. Kouyuu reflects and ponders his feelings toward his position and his family.

Shuurei and Eigetsu continue to be bullied while working to prove themselves to the court officials.

Kou Reishin is under arrest because of the rumor that he used dishonest methods during the exam. Shuurei and Eigetsu after being freed from capture, need to complete some documents to incriminate the culprit behind all of this.

The Court Officials are holding an inquiry not only for the rumor of Shuurei's capabilities and results on the exam, but also to report on the improper deeds of the Official that was behind everything.

Shuurei and Eigetsu as well as all of the other new officials are given their placements in the Royal Court, which some placements cause a ruckus in the court.
