The shadow of World War II hangs over Sunja and her family. With her husband Isak arrested and two sons to provide for, Sunja is set for some hardship. From selling kimchi on the streets of Osaka in 1938, we follow Sunja as she seeks solace and peace away from the difficulties of city life. Her two sons, Noa and Mozasu face the burden of growing up in times of increased scarcity and the continuous threats of war. Sunja grows strong through the struggle. Meanwhile, Solomon, Sunja’s grandson, is set for new challenges having landed a large, if morally dubious deal with Japanese businessman Mamoru Yoshii. Exactly how Solomon will face the questions raised by the deal and the behaviour of his new business partner will be important going forward.
