The loss of Elmo's oldest citizen brings not only sadness to the community, but causes the loss of their sister city, so Marin, coping with rumors of her death, promises to find a replacement.

As Elmo suffers through a heatwave, couples who have been restraining themselves let go, and new relationships are taken to the next level and at least one old one is rekindled.

Marin test the bounds of friendship when she strong-arms herself into Jack's trip to Anchorage. Meanwhile, a visitor to the bar makes Ben confront things he's been trying to ignore.

Marin's birthday is taken over by the arrival of her sister, Patrick gets some devastating news, and jealousy is felt by several in the community.

Marin and Patrick deal with their trust issues, and tremors cause a disaster.

Jane hits town with exciting news that may damage Marin's and Jack's friendship.

Marin returns to New York to talk with potential publishers; Elmo misses her.

Marin returns from New York to find Lynn at Jack's house.

Marin waits for Lynn to leave town, but Lynn has a surprise announcement, and Patrick has to examine if he's a mamma's boy.

Plagued by writer's block, Marin turns to the annual rummage sale for distraction, Sara arrives back in town and finds things very different, and Lynn wonders why she can't get Jack past second base.

Marin may have jumped the gun when she moves into her house before it's ready, Patrick feels the pinch of being the man and providing for everything, and Theresa feels uncomfortable when Sara helps out at the bar while Ben is recuperating.

Marin and Jane explore their masculine sides, while Sam dabbles in the feminine. Elsewhere, Patrick, Jack and Buzz deal with parenting issues.

Jane experiments with working in Alaska, and Marin's need to be the nice girl puts her in a couple awkward situations.

Marin can't light a fire in her new home so she invites Cash to be her house mate. Jack proposes to Lynn after going to Lamaze class with her. This upsets Marin, unsurprisingly. Sara meets a new guy at her EMT class. Patrick goes to New York with Annie to meet her family and ask for her father's permission to marry her.
