Alf accompanies Marilyn to the hospital before calling John; she is badly burned. Justin sends Brody to tell Phoebe what has happened to him. She awkwardly performs her song before he tells her he loves her and they kiss. Heath and Bianca exchange notes with Irene while Darcy is delighted to see them again. When she walks in on a heated conversation, she thinks they're breaking up but they tell her Bianca's pregnant. John tries to downplay the seriousness of Marilyn's burns but she soon realises he's lying. Nate tells him to go home.

Alf checks on Marilyn before she is taken into theatre for a skin graft. Although Nate assures her it went well, she is in pain when she comes round. McCarthy tells Kat to look into the arson: There has been nothing in any other area so the arsonist is probably a local. Ash tells Kat he wants to get back with her. Olivia keeps Mason company on a lifesaving shift. Mason feels she is trying too hard to convince him she's over Hunter but she insists she's committed to him, especially when she sees him looking after Harley when he cuts his finger on the beach. Heath tries to talk to Bianca and eventually tells her that they will all help her. However, Bianca then goes to the hospital and asks Tori about a termination; she gives her the necessary tablets. Justin is fretting to be discharged from hospital while Tori tries to hide Riley's presence from him. She eventually lets him go and Phoebe is soon running around nursing him. They decide to go ahead with the pregnancy but move back to the city so they can be closer to specialists, with Irene saying a tearful farewell to them, Darcy and Harley. Zac has to tell Leah about Bianca trying to kiss him and they get into an argument before calling an uneasy truce. VJ and Billie are preparing to bring Luc home but are uneasy about Leah's excitement, getting a coming home outfit for them, and Irene's visit and realise they need to tell the truth. Alf, Ash and Leah rush to the hospital where Billie tells them about Mick being the father. VJ and Leah take Billie home while Alf and Ash head out to search. Irene is also contacted and joins them. Tori comes home to find Justin and Brody playing with Buddy and chides Justin for pushing himself. She tells them she's chosen Nate but Nate refuses to be with someone who won't make up her mind. GPS records show he was the other side of the festival from the fire and McCarthy agrees not to charge him but warns him he's still a suspect. Phoebe arrives at the house to find Justin being taken away in an ambulance. Brody tells Nate about Riley cheating on Tori before they head to the hospital. Nate and Riley realise Justin has an infection but he responds to antibiotics and makes up with Phoebe. Riley challenges Nate, then tells Tori that Nate quizzed her brothers about them and bet him that he could win her. Alf and John do their best to reassure Marilyn but she later announces she's going back to the hospital. However, John convinces her to stay. Kat quizzes Alf about the fact that both the bait shop and the surf club stock the accelerant used to start the fire. Justin sends Phoebe to pick up his things and she spots the jewellery box on the table, panicking that he's going to propose. However, it turns out to simply be a guitar-shaped necklace. Zac runs into Alf while going for a run on the beach, where someone is watching him. Evelyn gets a message from Maddy inviting her and Matt to join her on a boating tour of the Greek islands. Matt is reluctant to go, since he can't afford it and doesn't want Evelyn to pay for him, but Alf convinces him to go for it. Zac quizzes Leah about her feelings and she rants about Billie lying to them, which Billie overhears. Leah blames Zac for pushing her into saying it, which is observed by his watcher, Sam. Zac rebuffs Sam but again says nothing to Leah. Next morning, Sam calls him to Salt and he again insists nothing will happen, resulting in Matt seeing them together. Olivia invites Mason to accompany her to the baby blessing and, after a talking to from Matt, he does so. Billie asks Leah to be guideparent despite VJ not agreeing to it; however, she is pleased and accepts. Billie is rushed to hospital; VJ accompanies her in the ambulance while Zac, Leah and Ash follow on and Alf and Matt look after Luc. Tori tries to apologise to Nate for accusing him but he is frustrated that she is still torn over Riley. X-rays show a mass blocking Billie's airway and Riley carries out a bronchoscopy with Mason observing. Zac runs into Sam, who says she is staying in town because another writer is joining her. Leah refuses to discuss it with him. Nate gets the results of the biopsy and Billie insists he talks to her before the others can arrive. He ...

Nate has Luc taken to Billie before passing on the news to Leah, VJ and Ash, who gradually accept that nothing can be done. Leah calls Alf and Zac who join them and VJ announces he wants to marry Billie straightaway, with everyone rushing round to help it happen. Kat and Phoebe join them as they exchange vows. Afterwards, Zac tries to comfort Leah but she just rants at him. Billie sends Ash home, then asks VJ to take her and Luc down the beach. Ash returns the next morning to find them gone. The couple watch the sunrise together before Billie dies.

Kat meets VJ on the beach to make arrangements. John sees the ambulance and tells Alf and Marilyn, but refuses to let Marilyn go and see them. VJ takes Luc back to the hospital to tell Leah, Zac and Ash; Ash is furious with him for taking her out and pushes Kat away when she tries to stay with him. Justin tries to phone Nina before finding Phoebe by Billie's memorial. He finds the house in a mess and empty of food so calls Brody round to cook and pays Raffy and Ellie to tidy it up. After receiving a text from Nina telling him to stop calling, he confides in first Brody and then Phoebe that he hasn't told Nina why he didn't show up. Marilyn wants to open the Diner to help Leah and Irene but John and Olivia talk her out of it. She is unable to leave the house to visit so instead writes a letter for VJ. Hunter looks at a photo of Olivia, while Mason visits the girl in question. She doesn't mention that Hunter helped out, but when Mason helps her at the Diner the next day Alf mentions it. Olivia claims it was no big deal and Hunter insists he's moved on when Mason questions him, but Hunter later tells Olivia they can't be friends. Kat arrives at the house as John is being taken away in the ambulance. Nate tells first John and Marilyn, then Alf and Kat that he has a brain tumour and confirms Kat's theory that it could cause behavioural changes. Kat tells Alf about the evidence against John. Justin meets with Nina, who tells him she had to tell Brian and Ava about his contact only for Ava to be upset when he didn't show up. Justin finally tells her about the stabbing but she isn't convinced Ava would be safe with him. Justin tells Phoebe he has to let Ava go. Ash returns to find VJ and Leah ...

VJ reacts angrily to the news about John and tells Ash when he comes home. Ash runs off to the hospital while Alf calls Kat. Ash bursts in on Nate and Riley discussing the tumour with John and Marilyn; Kat ushers him out but she and Nate have to explain the situation and John begins to realise he did it. Marilyn feels unable to attend the funeral. VJ gives a short speech on the beach and Ash sings one of Billie's favourite songs before they pour her ashes into the sea together; a stranger, Patrick Stanwood, watches them. Tori attends Nate's hearing; he is accused of waiting too long to intubate Billie, aggravating her condition. Tori realises Riley made the complaint and discovers that his report indicates Billie was in much worse shape than the lab reports stated; the case is quickly dropped. Zac overexercises at the gym while VJ ponders quitting his job. Irene and Matt both witness an argument between Leah and Sam. Irene and Ash visit Leah and VJ and convince them to let them help with Luc. Kat visits John in hospital to formally charge him with arson causing damage to property, injury and death. Sam turns up looking to rent a caravan and Zac rents one to her over an upset Leah's objections. Matt realises Zac slept wit her. Zac tells Leah there's something he needs to tell her.

Alf mentions to Matt and Evelyn that Zac and Leah are having troubles and Matt races to the house to stop Zac telling her about his night with Sam. Instead, he tells her he has to go to a conference. Justin encourages Mason to chat to Lena and they agree to meet at the party, but he is thrown when she indicates she'll take "something" to stay awake. Next day, with Phoebe having just moved in, Tori, Justin and Brody all berate Mason, especially when they find drugs he took off one of the punters in his wallet, but Phoebe and Raffy are pointedly excluded. Phoebe shuts herself in her bedroom to avoid talking to Justin, then goes to vent to Matt and Evelyn. Matt eventually calls Justin to come and get her, after which they decide to forget it but Phoebe remains distant. Hunter and Olivia talk over their plans to move in together; neither Irene nor Leah is happy but Alf suggests to Leah that they need a dose of reality and Irene accepts it's their choice. VJ is struggling to get Luc to sleep so Irene offers to take her for the night, having done up one of the bedrooms as a nursery. VJ is left feeling even more inadequate ...

Justin fills Brody in on his chat with Phoebe, who confides in Kat. Brody queries Phoebe, who says she's more sure about Justin than anyone else, a sentiment Justin echoes. Brody and Lena are working on cocktails, clearly both high, when Matt and Evelyn stop by to talk about farewell drinks. Brody is frustrated to find Justin and Mason messing about the day critic Terry Diamond is meant to be visiting. Leah and VJ deliver Luc to Irene and Leah later confides in her about Zac's cheating. Tori attempts to interest Nate in a yoga session on the beach. Justin confronts Brody about the cocaine before telling Tori, who later confides in Nate. Brody fires Lena when a customer, Annabel Kilgour, comes to Salt looking to score from her but also arranges to meet her to buy more drugs. Hunter and Olivia are accepted for a private rental they applied for but when they get there they find the garden full of rubbish and the house messy and dirty. Patrick tells Ash he needs to move on since his rental has ended, so Ash convinces Kat to let him stay at the farmhouse....

Ash quizzes Patrick about his odd reaction but eventually drops it. Phoebe ropes Tori into helping plan her engagement party but Nate gets uncomfortable and leaves when they joke about his and Tori's wedding. He bluntly tells Tori he's not going to get married again but later apologises. Hunter and Olivia attempt to put on a brave face cleaning the house but eventually admit that they both hate it; however, they agree to give it a go. Kat finds Patrick apparently sleepwalking and only just manages to snap him out of it when he advances on her.

Kat tries to counsel Patrick over what she believes is night terrors but Ash dismisses the seriousness. Kat gets hold of Patrick's service record and learns he was involved in a classified operation. Patrick moves out to the caravan park. Roo returns from Hawaii and Irene asks her to cover at the Diner since Luc is restless. Ash turns up for scheduled time with Luc but Irene sends him away. Zac attempts unsuccessfully to contact Leah. Ash discusses his ultimatum with Kat and Irene does with Roo. When Ash comes round to discuss it, VJ turns up and is angered himself. Patrick convinces Ash to meet with Irene and VJ and he tells them he won't be going for custody if Luc is brought up right but wants to be involved in major decisions. Hunter and Olivia inform Irene of the break-in; Murray carries out a brief investigation but doesn't hold out much hope and learns they have no insurance. Zac admits the truth to an angry VJ who calls Leah and then tells Hunter. Hunter is disapproving to Zac but tries to defend him to VJ. However, VJ refuses to forgive him and nearly moves out. John and Marilyn meet with their legal aid lawyer, Lachlan Piers, but it is clear he doesn't care if John's telling the truth or not, just in making sure the jury believe it. Mason and Raffy help Justin prepare for the engagement party. However, when Brody comes home, he snaps at them both and tells them to stay out of his room. Justin tackles him about it the next day and he denies still using; however, he has a sachet of drugs which he is unable to flush. Morag chats to John and Marilyn about the case and is confident she can mount a counter-argument but gives no guarantees. Justin, Brody and Raffy set up for the engagement party, with Brody now in a more relaxed mood. During the party, he keeps sneaking off but denies being on anything. Phoebe sings during the party and Donna warns Justin not to let her waste her talent. Morag has a go at John for taking the plea and he eventually tells her and Marilyn he'll fight it. Roo is keeping James hidden away in the flat and Morag has some stark words for him about it. Tori tries to avoid Nate at the party while revealing the truth to Justin; she eventually tells him she's been told to fire him.

Tori confides in Justin about Nate's reaction, while Nate is angry that she didn't make the decision herself. Tori tells Bernice they should fire Anna instead, since she costs a lot and is only part-time, but when one of the nurses tells Anna about Nate and Tori's relationship she makes a complaint. Nate tells Bernice he's accepting the redundancy. Phoebe admits to Justin and Kat that part of her is tempted by Donna's offer. She tells Justin she's worried about the strain on their relationship but he assures her they'll be fine and Donna suggests she open for her. ...

Raffy convinces Brody to pull over and he hides the drugs in her bag prior to Kat and Stevenson searching the car. Kat takes him to the station and has Murray give him a drug test but it comes back negative. He admits the truth to Justin, who gets rid of the drugs. Phoebe asks Justin to go to LA with her but he has family commitments. She admits she's worried she'll one day have to choose between him and her career but goes on the tour. Zac is worrying about Leah who finally returns home. They try to sleep together but Leah is unable to go through with it and is soon ...

Ash and Patrick see Zac is staying in a caravan. They pick up Luc from Irene, who says she threw up earlier but dismisses it as reflux. However, when they run into Tori she takes Luc into hospital and deduces she has had a bug that has left her dehydrated and needs fluids. Ash is annoyed that Irene dismisses it. John wants to spend the last day before the trial with Marilyn but instead she joins Irene and Roo in supporting Leah while John goes to give Zac an ear to bend. Roo and James go for a walk near the beach and witness Ash and VJ arguing. James continues to make himself scarce while Roo's friends are around. VJ tells Leah what Ash has done and they consult Morag, who concludes that since VJ is the legal father and married to the mother Ash doesn't have a chance. However, they then discover they never completed the paperwork for the birth certificate or marriage license. They try to talk to Ash but he remains committed. Robbo has a go at Ash for putting ideas in Kat's head. Kat insists they were just talking about the baby but Tori is also unhappy about them spending time together.
