8 Simple Rules - Season 2 (2005)

Goodbye Part 1: Unexpectedly, Cate Henessy gets a call telling her that her husband has passed away while shopping. The family deal with the loss of their husband and father.

After learning of the unexpected death of Paul, Cate and the kids must each deal with the loss of the beloved patriarch of the Hennessy family in their own way. To help console the family, Cate's parents - who are separated - put aside their marital differences and help the family through their time of need.

Cate is unprepared for the diverse reactions exhibited by Bridget and Kerry on their first day back to school since their father's death. Meanwhile, Jim tries his best to be helpful by making some questionable home improvements to the Hennessy home.

Paul used to be in the school basketball team and since his dad would have really liked it Rory decides to get into the team. Granpa gets the girls to agree not to fight each other because it burdens Cate. But it's hard to maintain peace.

Cate's determined to have the traditional Thanksgiving with the family even without Paul. When the girls say they want to go to a party, she tells them to bring their dates to dinner instead. Rory is told that he's the man in the house now.

Bridget needs extra-curricular activities to boost her college applications. So she joins the drama club - and gets the lead, upsetting Lacey, who expected to get it, and Kerry, who only gets to be one of the crew. Rory tries ventriloquism.

When Bridget announces that she has got a job as a lifeguard at a swimming pool, Jim is afraid that the girls don't need him anymore. Meanwhile, Kerry befriends a girl who is constantly ignored because she is not blonde. Rory is troubled by constant erections.

Cate's sister's son, the family black sheep C.J., arrives. He didn't come to the funeral because Paul was the only one who believed in him - and C.J. failed. But maybe he can help Paul's children. Or mess up again.

C.J.'s having a bad influence on Rory: inspired by C.J. he steals a drug dog. Then Bridget "borrows" Cate's credit card. And Finally, even Kerry is caught acting irresponsibly. Has Cate failed in raising her children?

Bridget gets assigned as a geek's lab partner, hires him as a tutor and finds herself oddly attracted to this Jeremy when Dylan gets sick. It's Kerry and Kyle's first Valentine's Day together. Rory has trouble figuring out a gift for Missy.

C.J.'s van burns down so he has to share a room with Gramps. Bridget needs no more tutoring, but wants to "win" Jeremy, so she enlists Kerry to take her go to the ge-- academic party Jeremy is going to. But does Bridget interest Jeremy?

Rory has started a blog centering on school rumors and C.J. starts helping him. Bridget tries to get Jeremy to go to the dance. The PTA, of which Cate belongs to, outlaws "suggestive" dancing, and Kerry decides to rebel. And Damian returns.

Gramps Jim gets a letter from his ex-wife, who tells that she's seeing someone else. Cate tells CJ that after hearing that Jim needs a man to talk to - and CJ has to be that man. In grief counseling, Cate is told to treat herself.

Rory has resorted to selling his stuff on the net to pay his dating expenses. C.J. becomes a "security consultant" at the mall. And he takes it seriously. Kerry wants to go to a summer art program in Europe, so she has to take a McJob.

The girls want to break the family Spring Break tradition and go to the Maeve Festival instead. Cate can't take a break from work, so she orders them to visit grandma. Rory has a crush on Kerry's friend Rachel. Naturally Kerry tells Rachel.

Having seen Cate in the arms of a man, the girls run away, leaving Kyle behind. The only one arriving the Maeve Festival is C.J., unfortunate for him. Soon the family starts worrying about the girls - except for Rory, who has other worries.

Bridget is going to a sleepover - or is she? Kerry's driving license test is approaching and she needs lessons. Turns out Gramps has to take the test too. C.J. holds a party at the campus, which leads to complications.

Mother's Day is approaching and the girls are acting suspiciously considerate towards Cate. Are they up to something no good? Rory starts a business: car wash. Then Gramps gets nostalgic over a car just like his first one.

C.J. has started taking massaging lessons. Gramps insists he can be the repairman of the house. Bridget gets a note from the principal because she supposedly dressed inappropriately. But when Cate meets the principal, she recognizes him.

Kerry gets in the art program in Europe in the summer, but Cate forgot to submit her medical records in time. Together they appeal to principal Gibb. C.J. falls for Missy's big sister Sissy and Gramps for a woman he has a car accident with.

Bridget gets suspended from school but she's covering for Kerry so she can go to her summer program in Europe. C.J. is waiting a call from Aerosmith, Gramps from Cate's mom. Cate goes to talk to Gibb about the girls, with surprising result.
