Prolific trombonist, conductor, songwriter and composer. He was a trombonist in the orchestras of Benny Goodman, Bob Strong, Gene Krupa, Tommy Reynolds, Jan Savitt, Frankie Carle, and Woody Herman, and led his own band in which he also soloed. Urbie Green has made many records with his orchestra as well. Joining ASCAP in 1963, his instrumental compositions include "Sentimental Blues" and "The Poor Soul".
