Bert grew up in Amsterdam and immigrated to the United States with his family while in middle school. He made his first film chronicling a family vacation using his dad's Bell & Howell Super8 camera. Bert started writing at a young age and self-published his first book at age 7. He continued studying journalism and writing throughout high school and college. He attended the University of San Francisco and has a BS degree in Information Technology. His first real film was a 16mm industrial training film for United Airlines, which he wrote and directed. He joined forces with This 'n That Films in 2011 to distribute The Last First Comic: How Burlesque Died and Irv Benson Lived To Tell It. Since that effort, he's researched and written their subsequent films Mid-Century Moderns: The Homes That Define Palm Springs, Quiet Elegance: The Architecture of Hugh M. Kaptur and co-directed 88 Days in the Mother Lode: Mark Twain Finds His Voice - which he co-wrote with Mark Twain. He is proud of the true collaboration of This 'n That Films latest project, The Neon Struggle. He and his business partner are always working on their latest projects. Under his pen name, Albert Simon, he has sold over 500,000 of his mystery novels on Kindle, Nook and other eReaders.
